What are the mobile data regulations in Indonesia?
Every passenger arriving from abroad is required to fill out a customs declaration and submit it to the customs and excise officer upon arrival. However, foreign tourists who still want to use a foreign SIM card or international SIM card do not need to register their IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity Number).
It might cost a fortune however if you use your number from home. Therefore, we advise tourists to use an Indonesian SIM card. You can register at a cellular operator outlet to get access for 90 days.
How to get a local SIM card?
From airports to roadside shops. If you find a small shop outlet with the words ‘konter ‘ 'counter' or '... cell' they can fulfill your needs for internet in Lombok. As long as they are an official reseller.

You buy and register a sim card using a passport as a tourist.

Once registered, you can top up your mobile internet in Indonesia or data package at the operator's counter or the nearest large minimarket.
Some cards already have a package ready to be activated upon registering the card. Or you can buy a sim card through a local Indonesian online marketplace platform. The way registration and purchases work is no different from what local Indonesians do. But as a foreigner this can be a bit daunting.
What are the types of mobile internet in Lombok?
The most common method for accessing mobile internet is with prepaid quota. You buy your data quota as a package and use it until it runs out or expires. Another option is postpaid, allowing you to pay as much as you use per month.
But what about the speed of the internet in Lombok? Well, in Indonesia you can connect to the 5G network through several local providers. However, keep in mind that Lombik is quite a natural destination. The internet network is therefore not very evenly distributed. You will have locations like Mataram where you can access high-speed mobile internet. In other places, you might not be able to connect to any network.
