Pertamina Mandalika Circuit
First of all, the world-class event returned to Lombok. The Indonesian MotoGp 2026 is held on the same Mandalika circuit. This way the audience of the next Lombok MotoGP will be treated again to a track next to the sea.
The complex also has an amazing panorama of pure nature. When it comes to Lombok, we all know how this island is decorated with beautiful beaches, hills, waterfalls, caves, and more. You can even spot buffaloes grazing in close proximity to the circuit.
The myth of Mandalika
Even though the Mandalika MotoGP attracts global attention, not many people know that the name is taken from a myth. The origin comes from the beautiful princess named "Mandalika". Because of her beauty, many princes courted her in the hopes of winning her as their wife.
The competition between princes got out of hand and eventually started a war. To end the bloodshed, Princess Mandalika flung herself into the sea. This is immortalised in a statue near the Pullman Lombok Mandalika Beach Resort and Novotel Lombok Resort. Here you can see her throwing herself into the water with the princes trying to stop the beautiful princess.
When trying to recover the body, only thousands of nyale or sea worms/eels were found. Because the Princess was beloved by all, the people were sad. In order to remember her, the Mandalika myth made way for the annual ceremony known as Bau Nyale Festival.
Additional facilities
Apart from the MotoGP, the Mandalika project encompasses an even bigger idea. It is part of a government program to create new major tourist destinations in Indonesia. Big and diverse enough to match the likes of Bali.
The area is mostly focused on sports and eco-tourism. All the way from Seger Beach to Kuta Beach, the environment is being transformed into a touristic haven. In the middle, you will find Merese Hill. This hilltop offers an amazing view of natural beauty plus it's the starting point for a Lombok paragliding adventure. From sunrise to sunset, you are baffled by the scenery.
In the area, you will find traditional houses. Here you can examine old crafts like weaving.
