Apart from the beauty of the beach and sea, Lombok also has mountains and hills to explore during a trek. Waterfalls, lakes, rivers, forests, or just a view from above are of course included in the 'package' that comes with it. These are some recommendations for the best places for hiking and trekking Lombok:
Selong Hill - Easy
Bukit Selong is one of the best trekking spots in Lombok. You can enjoy the island from a height, yet it's still easy to reach and can even be accomplished with kids. The height is 1800 meters above sea level, but there are already stairs that make it easier for your trekking Lombok trip.
Rice Field Viewpoint is one of the attractions that you can get at the peak. It features an astonishing view over a wide expanse of rice terraces. Experiencing this with a sunrise makes it all the more beautiful because it is not blocked by hills or dense forest.
Even though it's a high hill, the entrance as well as the vehicle parking lot is already at a sufficient height. So you only have to climb the stairs for 15-20 minutes to reach the top. And on the way, you will come across the remnants of Beleq Village. A historic traditional village and origin of the indigenous Sembalun people.
This hill already has toilet facilities, food and coffee stalls, a large parking lot, and even a small photo support building.
Pergasingan Hill - Medium
It's only a hill they said, yet it still reaches a height of 1670 meters above sea level. Or only a few meters shorter than Mount Andong in Magelang. Pergasingan Hill is one of the best Lombok hiking spots to practice before the Mount Rinjani hike. And if you get to the top in the morning and are lucky, you might be able to see the clouds below you.
This hill is an alternative way to climb Mount Rinjani. And climbers use this route because the terrain is quite easy. The view at the top is the majestic Gunung Rinjani, along with forests and green hills. On average you should count 2 hours to trek to the top.
Anak Dara Hill - Intermediate
If Pergasingan Hill is still not enough for your trekking Lombok trip, you have to try Anak Dara. It takes about 3 hours to climb, and has an altitude of 1,937 meters above sea level. This hill is still in the village of Sembalun too, and is touted as a replica of Mount Rinjani.
We recommend trekking with a guide, because this hill has a twisting hiking trail, and passes through a 45 degree slope and dense forest. The shape of the hill is conical, so it is possible to enjoy 360 degree views of nature.
A little advice, start trekking at 1 pm and take the time to see the beautiful sunset. Then go down to the camping ground and prepare for some Lombok camping. In the morning, you can see a very beautiful sunrise, before you head back down and end your trekking Lombok trip.
Tips and tricks while trekking in Lombok
Before you head out on your Lombok trekking, these are some tips for the best experience:
- Make sure your preparations are complete: Use hiking boots or trekking sandals that have anti-slip and are strong. Also bring a jacket and a raincoat just in case, adequate food and drinks, but not excessive, a hat, and sunblock.
- Trust your instinct: This applies to yourself, the guide, and the local people. If you are not sure about your feelings, or the guide and local people say that the weather will be bad, we recommend following the advice.
- Do not take anything and leave nothing: Do not take any part of the flora or fauna that are on the hill and on the way. Similarly, do not leave any trash.
- Before and after trekking, prepare yourself: Find accommodation that is comfortable and has supporting facilities. When you stay at Amazing Lombok Resort, don't forget to order a massage after trekking in Lombok to relax your muscles and get ready for the next things to do in Lombok.
